What Do You Treasure?

1 Samuel 1:24-28  When the child was weaned, Hannah took him to the Tabernacle in Shiloh. They brought along a three year old bull for the sacrifice and a basket of flour and some wine. After sacrificing the bull, they brought the boy to Eli. “Sir, do you remember me?” Hannah asked. “I am the woman who stood here several years ago praying to the Lord. I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.”  And they worshiped the Lord there.

Do you see? Can you relate? Hannah was broken, shattered, tormented by the lack of a child. She pleaded with Me to grant her desires to be a mother, and promised that she would dedicate the child to Me. And so. She was granted her wishes, and gave birth to a son, Samuel. She had her most treasured possession – a child. And yet, though this child represented all she had ever wanted, when he was but a few years old, she gave him back to Me. She kept her promise. She was fulfilled and grateful for the time she had spent with Samuel and the fact that she had been able to become a mother. What do you treasure? Do you not believe I can or will grant your wish? Are you willing to offer it all back to Me if I ask for it? Can you hold loosely to what this world has to offer and instead treasure your relationship with Me above all else? Search your heart, Child. I am aware of how difficult these times are for you, just as I saw and ministered to Hannah in her deepest times of despair and sadness and anguish. I am here, Child. I see you. I hear you. I love you. Hang on. And don’t miss that Hannah’s sacrifice was not unseen – she was repaid five fold.
