A Willing Sacrifice

Genesis 22:13-14 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”

Yahweh-Yireh – the Lord will provide. “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” What was the precursor to this? Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his only son. The one thing that meant the most to him. The thing he had waited over 100 years for. A son with his wife Sarah. I told him to give that son back to me, and he was willing. He was at the point of taking Isaac’s life in obedience to My command when I stopped him and provided a ram for the sacrifice. Do you not see? Abraham was willing to give it all back to me. Everything that mattered. The most precious thing in his entire life – his only son. Yet, he was willing to follow My directive and sacrifice him on the mountain – to end Isaac’s life with a knife and burn his body as a sacrificial offering. You wish that I provide for you. And I will. But I wish you to be willing to sacrifice everything back in worship to Me. Will you give up all the things that are so important to you? All those items and activities that occupy so much of your thought, your time, your energy? Will you give it all back to Me? Are you willing to become more like Abraham?
